This pitcher, raised by hand from 918gramm sterling silver, holds 0.7liters of liquid. It is a marvelous highlight on the table for decanting wine as well as for pouring ice cold juice. Silver is a demanding material for the designer. It’s value as well as the delicate, time consuming methods to work the material require a solid plan and patience in realizing the idea. We often start by analysing classic designs and learning from them. How have objects for a certain purpose been formed in the past? Is there a different way? We find inspiration in understanding the movements that are performed when using an object and why that is so. Good design allows a natural understanding of the objects purpose, the way it is to be handled. To achieve this, we work with plaster or wood models. Models allow to gain experience of how a form might work, of how a jug will actually pour a liquid and then to refine specifications, proportions, or formal aspects accordingly. Our vessels are raised from 1mm sterling silver plates and planished by hand. Some are mounted and soldered when necessary. The surfaces are ground with pumice stone and finally polished to brilliancy.
